Officers Training Academy (OTA) - Chennai (For Men and Women)

How to Apply for CDS/OTA Examination?

The CDS Written Examination is conducted by UPSC twice a year, with notifications usually issued in November and July. The exams are typically held in February and October. Candidates interested in appearing for the CDS and OTA written examinations can apply online through the UPSC website. This streamlined application process ensures a convenient and efficient way to register for the exams.

Eligibility for CDS Written Examination

  • Educational Eligibility: Graduates who have either qualified or are in their final year of graduation are eligible to sit for the CDS written exam. For candidates aspiring to join the Air Force and Navy, it is essential to have a background in engineering, physics, and mathematics. OTA candidates can be graduates or final year students.

  • Age Requirements: Candidates for the Indian Military Academy (IMA) should be between 19 ½ to 24 years of age on the date of joining. For OTA, the age limit is between 19 ½ to 25 years on the date of joining.

  • Gender Specifics: The CDS written exam is exclusively for male candidates, while both men and women can apply for the OTA exam.

Exam Pattern of CDS/OTA Written Exam

The CDS written exam consists of three papers:

  1. General Knowledge (100 Marks)
  2. English (100 Marks)
  3. Mathematics (100 Marks)

All three papers of the CDS written exam are conducted on the same day, with each paper having a duration of two hours. Each paper carries a total of 100 marks, resulting in a total of 300 marks for the CDS written exam.

The OTA Written exam includes two of the papers mentioned above:

  1. General Knowledge (100 Marks)
  2. English (100 Marks)

OTA candidates are exempt from the Mathematics paper. Therefore, the total marks for the OTA written exam amount to 200.
